What I Loved:
It's been forever since the last KITSCH, and that's if we bother to count the Christmas release - I've totally missed it! I'm not that into decor, but that makes the quirky items of this store all the better, since they pretty much style themselves. So, I'm just happy it's back!
Nerd. Stuff. Is. Everywhere. Okay, so KITSCH isn't typically aimed at nerds, but this has all the basic pieces I never knew I had to own. Tie Fighter desk? AN ACTUALLY APTLY NAMED DEATH STAR LAMP?!?! My little happy heart.
The interior. Too many lately have cost 30-plus stardollars, which is ridiculous. Not only is this one cheaper, it's also a nice design, being detailed enough to use it alone but also basic enough that you could dress it up very nicely as well.
The math clock! Okay, so, I'm not that into math but I can absolutely appreciate these - that, and solving these makes me feel fractionally smarter than being able to read an analog clock. In all seriousness, though, why can so few people read them these days? When I was in school, you'd have to repeat math if you couldn't manage something that simple. Now I feel old.
The Usual:
So... a lot of these stem from trends that were so over, like, last year. Take the creature planter - which would have been running off the shelves back when Pokemon Go was still happening. Or the Galaxy bed - okay, so it's kind of a Star Wars/Trek thing, and tbh I like galaxy prints but, that trend was over ages ago. Pac Man, at least, has the excuse of being vintage.
The...prices? This is weird. Some are fantastic - 10sd Donkey Plush, of the 7sd Creature Planter - while the 20sd Galaxy Bed is expensive, but at least partially excusable in that other beds are costing around the same these days.
What I Hated:
Oh, boy. The graphics. Talk about a mixed bag. Some things I can excuse being bad - like, shelves, which are supposed to look flat and plain in order to highlight what they hold. But once you stick "brick" on it, I expect it to look like, well brick. I presume it's meant to look like the brick on various vintage video games, but it can't even pull that off.
