Every year, without fail, the fashion world explodes with a flurry of tassels, frayed edges, and fringes. No matter that, just days ago, those shredded bucket bags went on the list of things to give to grandma, and those overly shiny cowboy-boots with the white fringe rim were designated "things I should never have bought," suddenly, they're your new bets friends.

No matter the status of your festival tickets - #nochella or #coachella - festival style's most important, and apparently unending trend, is to have pieces of fabric and thread dangling from all corners and crevasses of the body.

For once, though, Stardoll has more than got the memo - so if you're into this trend, for the moment of forever, there's no lack of items to choose from.

About half-way through the second look, I realized my hair was about as far from festival-casual as you can get. Which highlights my own #nochella status just the right amount, I think.

Hey everyone! It's been ages since I last reviewed a trend - but I thought I'd take a loot back at some of my previous trend reviews and make some Under35 versions! My friend Leigh aka Leighways also provided some non-ss friendly, sc versions.

This is the first of several, so I hope you enjoy!

Cold Shoulders:

This is such a confusing trend for me - you can check out my review HERE - but I can't deny, it's gown on me, perhaps due to some of the very awesome Stardolls I've seen wearing it recently.

Sheer:

Sheer is another trend I reviewed - and still rather like. There's just so many variations! There's lace, fishnet, regular sheer, and combos. It's classy and cute and edgy all at once.

Texture-wise, on Stardoll, the two appear identical, even if in real life, they're very different - but I'll get to that some other time.

There were plenty of items, but none that I really liked enough to actually buy. These are the outfits I came up with:

Bold pants have become a much more popular piece lately. It's one of those trends that comes in an out of fashion every year, so here's my tips on how you can style them:

1) Base with Black & White

As always, it's a good idea to base out any bold piece with black and white.

2) Matchy Matchy

Match the shapes and colours of your boldest piece with subtler pieces. Such as florals with florals, stripes with stripes, yellow with yellow, monochrome with monochrome.

4) Careful Cropping

Remember my Blocked Out Series? This is definitely one item that can benefit from a little Rule Of Thirds! Using the Balancing Act or Standout Piece concepts, your look can be a lot easier on the eye.

3) Have fun!

February 24, 2017

I haven't had the time for a full review and lookbook lately, so I thought I'd mix it up a little! it's in two lists, 5 pros and 5 cons along with outfits!

Being quite busy these last two weeks, I used items I already owned instead of the plaza this time. I'll do a 35 post to make up for it!

Pros

  1. Many different colours and combinations to choose from
  2. Mostly neutral, so can often go well with other prints and colours
  3. Goes alongside the current trend of military fashion
  4. Comes in a variety of print sizes and shapes
  5. A common print so easy to find - both in real stores and on stardoll

Cons

  1. Reminds me of hunting
  2. Looks odd when worn with, or is in, bright colours
  3. Not a flatteringly print - can be widening around the body
  4. Hard to wear two pieces at once and have them both match
  5. Very informal, hard to dress up for special occasions

December 22, 2016

Due to the limited number of specifically Christmas items on Stardoll, I just went for the straight-up ugly sweater look.

As much as I love my custom wig, I must admit it made styling and choosing the sweaters a bit more difficult than usual!

November 14, 2016

There was an abundance of these on Stardoll from a lot of the more recent releases, so there was plenty to play with. I made 5 outfits total.

November 04, 2016

This time, I made 7 outfits featuring "set" type outfits! It was certainly fun to try and find the assortment of Stardoll items that are made to look the same or similar. I tried avoiding the too-obvious options like bikinis, hope these do well!

I also have another post coming early next week on how to create you own sets from other items, so if you like this look, stay tuned for that.

With every trend review comes a trend creation, and this one is no exception! My doll did get a makeover half-way through making these though so this time I've split it into two pictures of three outfits.

As usual, I popped into the Starplaza to see what I could find.
I made 7 outfits in general, and two starcoin outfits which I put at the bottom.

September 23, 2016

Just me this time, because I couldn't find almost any stardoll members who were actually wearing this
trend!

September 18, 2016

It's SPRING in New Zealand so I was so excited to find this cute dress and shoes in the bazaar.

What I Wore

Pretty N' Love Valentina Dress
Fudge Bollywood Shorts *
Bonjour Dizou Pale Sea Wedges
Underneath Stardoll Strapless Top Bronze
Riviera Solid Gold Choker

The big sleeve trend has been taking over Stardoll for a while now, and it's my time to take a look at how we can wear it. Not only will I be styling it in the starplaza, but also it's called a "trend" so it really wouldn't make a lot of sense if only I was wearing it! So, I took a look around and found some great examples of other dolls from across the globe who really make this trend work.

How You Styled It:

I love just how much is going on in this, there's daisies, there's jewels, there's all kinds of colours as well but the all-black layer beneath it just helps the jacket be the star with this look.

100roro10This is a great tomboy look, it's minimalist, practical, there's a lot of neutral colours going on which really compliment the big green jacket on the top. It's totally classic and I could see this walking down the street just about anywhere.

hanonmizuiroThis one is so completely minimalist, in this case even with all the different shapes of clothing the brightly red bag is totally the boss here and I'm loving it.

Queen_37
This look is so 2016. There's fur, there's pleats, there's vinyl, there is a lot going on but ultimately it's still got a really laid-back vibe to it. The pastel pallet is just too perfect!

September 11, 2016

I haven't done the review yet, but I thought I'd do a quick post creating some Turtleneck outfits! I'm a bit of a lover when it comes to turtlenecks so, I've been really planning this out for a while. I ended up going really overboard and made 12 outfits in total. Oops.

Thanks to my doll's hair I rather ended up doing a lot of red and brown themed outfits, it totally wasn't on purpose but anyway!

September 09, 2016

As I mentioned before, I was able to make three different outfits fitting the Capes & Shapes theme using only starcoin pieces. I think they turned out really well! Hair and makeup weren't included though.

I just love little black dresses and I was inspired by the really adorable Mock Neck A Line Dress from the latest collection of Vinyl, which I had in yesterday's OOTD.

September 08, 2016

Although there actually is a "cape" filter in the plaza, I found most of what was in there seemed to be wings and other costume type things as opposed to the kinds of cloak-capes that I was looking for. But in the end there were plenty of different ones to choose from. I even ended up doing three different starcoin-only outfits, which I'll be posting later on in the week.

September 06, 2016

I did a Trend Review on Fringe over the weekend, so here's how I ended up styling it!

There were so many different items to choose from I was really impressed. I'm not sure if that was because this is just a popular trend, or maybe because it's one the comes and goes a lot, but it was so cool to have such a range of items to style.
