July 20, 2017

Yes, that's right - this is Part One. Yep. There were just that many trends to regret.

I tried to focus on trends that I've worn myself, generally over the past 20 years (seeing as I just turned 20.)

But I'm not only posting pictures, good and bad, I'm doing little mini reviews for each trend. Later on, I'll even be re-making them for Stardoll purposes - to see if I can update these, or if some are just destined to remain in the archives.

Layered Bangles /Bracelets

I am ashamed to say I kept doing this. I'm not talking 2 or three - I'm talking full-arm layers.

The Bad:
Ugly, clashing, horrendously heavy. These were, more than anything else, entirely impractical to wear. You could rarely find more than three bracelets that looked good together, let alone 30. And then you'd get ones with spikes or charms so you couldn't wear anything with a long sleeve, or pretty much lie your arm down on any surface without feeling very uncomfortable.

The Good:
The main thing about this trend is that it did leave me with a lot of bracelets, most of which I wear on their own. It also taught the world to appreciate the fact that some colours are just not supposed to go together. It did normalize spiky items and leather things so, I can appreciate that too.

Too Many Fake Eyelashes

Let's be honest - none of us want to see this one, so I won't bother with a picture.

The Bad:
First of all, that much glue is not going to be good for your eyeballs, or waterline, or the environment, or really anything. They did absolutely noting aesthetically, they didn't make your eyes look any nicer, there was just somehow no point to them whatsoever.

Also, they were heavy. That, to me, is reason enough not to go there, ever again.

The Good:
We all improved our eyelash application skills and learnt to appreciate the right glue and mascara.

Skirts & Dresses With Flare Jeans:

Most iconic is, of course, those times Ashley Tisdale did it. At the time, it was chic, innovate, and trendy - and she was not the only one doing it, either. I was one of those people. Today, we uses it as an example of how not to layer.

The Bad:
Do I really need to tell you? It's completely unflattering, because it hides any curces you could have. It looks dumpy and shortening with so many wide areas. And it's just really, really ugly.

The Good:
Did I say old trends? Because this trend is back and looking brilliant.

Since the above image is entirely unconvincing, you can check out the Pretty As Pants entries, my previous Trend Review post (which I'll be updating next week) , or my IRL inspired sheer stylings.

All Neon Outfits:

The Bad:
Want to have a literal headache just by looking in your closet? Because that was the effect this trend had. It was an eyesore at times, mixing in neons with more neons and in combinations that wouldn't have looked good even if they hadn't been so, well, neon.

The Good:
I think it taught everyone that sometimes, less is more. The items from the era are still in use as statement pieces, which are much easier on the eye.  Neon undoubtedly still has a place in fashion, it's just not all over, all the time.

Hope you liked part 1! What were your worst trend regrets?
