Maybe it was rash. But I won't take any of it back. This, perhaps, is more of an elaboration than anything.

It was Agnes that added me as a writer. It was Agnes and I that had to feal with the first SDC takeover. For almost a year, it was only us teo doing any of the posts at all. Nobody could contact Jenna. Neither of us dared touch anything for fear of her kicking us off and shutting down the blog for good.

It is me that goes through the mod panel approving - sometimes days-old, if I took a break - pending messages, deleting bullying, and so on.

It was me that had to shut down threads whenever there were trolls, or arguments. It was me that stayed up past 3am many times to deal with the arguments and frustrations. It was me that had to be the bad guy when people kept on breaking the rules.

It was me that, when smw got completely shut down and deserted, put in time and effot to re-start the blog. To get new members and advertise on facebook and instagram, to receuit new writers, to remove people from the writing team who didn't want to be there.

It was me that fixed the blog code when it kept crashing. It was me that decided on weekly chats when the "permanent" one was taken over by sdc bullies for a second time.

And where was Jenna?

Studying, apparently.

And no, I have no bitterness about that whatsoever, because, same.

What I am bitter about - and what I know Agnes was bitter about too - was being quite dismissed when Jenna came back. I lost he ability to add and remove writers. I lost the ability to fix the many things you all keep complaining about.

I was the one that got pms insulting my intelligence, my doll, my work here. I was the one who had to repeatedly tell people that Jenna LIKED the pink-on-black and that, no, I could not and would not be changing it.

But more than that, I'm just pissed off.

Because, irl, I've almost lost my apartment and my car. Because other people went behind my back to say and do things without consulting me. I can't afford another car and I can't afford to spend time and money trying to find another home. So I'm having to sell off a lot of my stuff to get enough to put a downpayment on it all over again.

So to have people going behind my back to complain about things is bullshit. To have it go through Jenna feels plain insulting. I'm already dealing with the results of such asholish behavior, I don't need more of it online too.

Have I not done enough to earn a little respect? Evidently not.

And even without all that, a large number of those I stayed on for are or have left anyway. And, yes, I've mentioned to a number of people that I have considered leaving- even put in on Chat one week. But nobody seemed to notice or take it even half seriously.

As for whether I want the blog to close - no. I don't.

But I don't believe it should go on as it was. It should never have become my sole responsibility to keep this space alive. It shoudl never have been put on Agnes either, or even Jenna.

It is not a healthy or happy space, nor has it been for quite some time.

And I will not be returning.

October 25, 2018

It's been 11 days since I last made an outfit on stardoll - but here one finally is!

I've had essays due, exams to do, job hunting, and so on. I've got several blogs going  - thisisthedoll, Stardoll's Most Wanted & Lookbook, Star For A Dollar, SDInHouse & Club, and I keep on getting requests for guest posts - and unfortunately, I've fallen behind on all of it.

Ultimately, real life comes first. It has to. So for all who read, request, chat with an inspire me - thanks for sticking around, and I hope to be back at it again soon!

October 04, 2018

The latest It Girls release was so small and sad I decided to skip writing a review - and hope that a better, bigger collection comes soon.

September 25, 2018

I haven't been this dissapointed since.. oh, the last RE-LE, maybe? I'm talking about the latest two new floors from Nelly, because each one was as bad as the last.

What Was Okay

Yeah, no, I didn't love a single thing in this collection.

There is a decent variety in shapes and colours, which go well with both the Northern Hemisphere's entry int Autumn, and the Southern hemisphere's entry into Spring.

There's less dupes than previous collections, though I will be doing a post on SMW about that.

In general, the shoes and bags are decently well made and all very versatile.

The prices are OKAY. They're not affordable, and as we've come to expect from Nelly and other Real Brands, there's no items for coins.

The denim items are definitely different from the repeated boyfriend-with-rips we've seen dozens of times already, though they're still not anything to rave about.

My Picks:

What I Hated With Passion

Two thirds of this collection - and I'm talking both new floors - looks like something from the 2010 reject pile. They're flat, lifeless, and straight up ugly.

The pieces they choose are incredibly random in terms of prints and styles - it's difficult to tell what kind of a theme this store is supposed to have, if any. Earlier floors were always proper collections - all monochrome, or festival, or Western inspired. But this is just a higgledy piggledy mess.

So many bland basic pieces. It's a bit laughable really, that we've all waited so long for new Nelly to bring in something wearable and trendy, only to be faces with items better suited to BASICS or as Stardesign templates.

It's almost 1am and I'm procrastinating assignments and THIS IS THE OUTFIT I ENDED UP WITH

Idk why I like it, someone stop me. And what is that haaaaaaaair?! (butIkindalikeit???seNDHELP)

September 17, 2018

Sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo my laptop maybe kinda sorta works now? But anyway, I managed to snag this skirt in a sale and initially, I planned to give it away in a comp or something but... it's kinda growing on me. Ooops.

September 16, 2018

I've been busy lately with life, SMW, and then...my laptop broke. Sorry for so little posts lately.

I'm not generally one for suite designing, but given how many pairs of boots I have - and am planning to buy - I thought I ought to make them into a decent display. So far, so good~

Usually, I'm not the biggest fan of chunky highlights - but this hair really spoke to me for some reason. It's definitely not a colour I've ever worn on Stardoll before, seeing as I usually avoid pink like the plague, but it's definitely growing on me.

September 01, 2018

Stardoll has been down for around 10 hours for some users, though others have only just begun to have issues.

So far, I'm betting they're just setting up for Miss Stardoll World and accidentally screwed up the wrong code in the process. But while we wait - and desperately hope this isn't the actual end of our beloved site - here's a few alternative things to do!

MySuperStyle

This was discovered by Stardoll users during the last Great Stardoll Blackout. It's another Swedish site, with arguably better graphics. You can earn money by either doing tasks - involving dressing up, changing your makeup, and visiting other members - or by doing an idling task, just click and wait for the bar to full up. You can also pay for a membership with game currency, so if you're patient, you won't need to spend a cent!

But, there site is sometimes slow, not everything is in English yet, and a number of older items no longer fit the dolls properly due to an update a while back.

Mall World

If you're friends with me on Facebook - well, you've probably seen the notifications. I've been playing for over 6 years now on my personal account. It's a wonderful freeplay within Facebook or on your Mobile, where you stock you shop, wait to sell, and use the profits to buy clothes! There's lots of friend interaction, and even more alternative styled clothing than on Stardoll - they even have a sister app where you can design clothing for both games!

Probably the biggest downside is the huge number of member-only stores, but the membership costs (in New Zealand, at least) start at less than half of Stardoll's anyway.

LadyPopular

Love Nikki

If you're interested in Asian fashion - or really, any kind of non-stereotypical Western street styles - then this app is a must have. There's everything from Steampunk to Lolita to Gothic to Glam and everything in between. The storyline is adorable - though the ending may shock you - and the art is utterly gorgeous. Bonus? It's totally free-to-play with no ads at all!

Really, the biggest issue is just the broken English, which is totally easy to understand even when it's grammatically horrible

Image result for Lady Popular
If you want to be the next Kardashian, then this is probably your kind of game. The graphics are a lot less 'high fashion' and a lot more Chibi-like than Stardoll, but there's still plenty of options in terms of clothes, and no lack of freebies. Rather than being about design and creativity, it focuses largely on...well, getting popular.

The biggest issue is the lagging, and the fact that the overall site looks so very much like 2010 never ended.

DivaChix

Uh... this app looks, at times, like a clone of LadyPopular, and at other times, like it's precursor. If LP never left 2010, DC never left 2007. But at other times, it looks totally modern. My point is, this game is a bit of a visual mess.

Yet, it also has a number of designing features and poses that Stardoll members might love, that LadyPopular goes without. The CYO (Create Your Own) aspect is a huge draw for anyone with visual art or graphic design skills.

GirlSense

This is basically Stardoll, circa 2006. It's fun, it's free, it's nostalgic, and works surprisingly well given it's age. But ... it is old, so, not good for much other than a nostalgia trip.

http://www.superstardressups.com

Quite literally, this ones is made and designed by the original Stardoll team - and it looks it. If you like old graphics, this is the app for you. There's a social area, and you can layer clothes, as well as dress up celebrities, just like on stardoll. There's literally thousands of items to pick from, and - other than new releases - it's free.

However, navigation is an absolute pain, and there's no design or suite aspect.

Episode

While not strictly fashion based, there's definitely some stories that revolve around the outfits you choose. Don't like the options they give you? The jump on the story writing site and make your own!

As a student writer, this was definitely helpful - perhaps unintentionally - with my studies. But if you're not into waiting around, or dislike drama, this is definitely not the app for you.

Kim Kardashian: Hollywood

If you're not already on this app - which can be accessed on Android, ios, or via Facebook - then you either already finished it when the hype train came, or you saw 'Kardashian' and ran a mile (which, honestly? Same.)

But there's lots of fashion items, various storylines, and plenty of Stardoll members who you can add and play alongside. The biggest issue is supporting the K-J Klan, or perhaps the fact they insist you absolutely *must* want a baby.

Stardom

Want the fame game, minus Kim K? Stardom was the precursor to KKH, with a similar storyline, rewards, lower pricing, and without the need for babies. Less people play it, though, so getting friend rewards and help - which the games heavily rely on - can be tricky.

Covet Fashion

I loved it in the early days - these days, it's more like a sinkhole for real money, or a timewater for free players. It's near impossible to enter anything without shelling out diamonds. Not to mention, the themes, available items, and voting system are geared to have the whitest, plainest, most generically red-carpet-esque outfits win, every time, which is incredibly boring.

But, if you have real money to spend, or don't mind spending a few hours voting between two equally mediocre looking outfits, this app will at least be a decent waste of your time - if nothing else.

August 27, 2018

It's been a while since my last Stardoll DUPES post, but, well... there's been a few developments and new collections recently, and with that, come new dupes.

Are They Serious?

When you can get a dupe for starcoins, is there really any question of which one you're going to buy? No, I don't think so.

Alternatives:

If you absolutely have to buy a plain white tee, why not add some texture with these first three? Or, if it's the white bodysuit aspect you want, the swimsuit adds an interesting neckline while keeping it classic.

Yet More Turtlenecks

Seriously, I've already had - what, three other posts on long sleeved black turtlenecks? And here comes stardoll with another one, even more ugly, boring, and uninteresting than the last fifty billion versions!

Alternatives:

Do I really need to list them all again?

Hot Buys Shoes

Same exact shoe - the platform colour and order, the toe shape, the lace, it's all identical. The only real difference is the 'angle,' with the Vinyl version being looked at from above and the Hotbuys from the side.

Alternatives:

Truth be told, I really liked the Vinyl versions when they first came out. But nonetheless, if you want to avoid a duped-out outfit, here's a few other shoes you can try.

There's definitely no lack of metallic shoes, or platforms, and theses are just a few of my personal picks to replace the above:

August 26, 2018

I've been wanting to wear this dress since I snatched it up in the 50% off sale! I'm not totally convinced that the outcome outfit is my best work, but it's definitely a happening look.

Pearls - French Barret
Versus Versace Tribute - Tartan Bomber Jacket
Bonjour Bizou - Caicos Plaid Dress
Museum Mile - Givenchy Black Belt
Dior Couture Tribute - Polka Dot Dior Inspired Tuille Skirt
Fallen Angel - Gold Ring Choker
Subcouture - Classic Patent Boots

August 25, 2018

Myself, Leigh, and A.D. have put together a blog to collate cool designers, awesome outfits, and inspiring suites!

We all really missed the days where stardoll blogs used to celebrate and share their members, rather than just throwing shade and sharing releases.

This new blog will have NO drama, MINIMAL words, and absolutely no reviews. Just pretty pictures, item lists, and cool people.

August 24, 2018

I really liked this collection, so I decided to forgo a review and go with a Style Store post instead - in case you haven't seen one before, basically, I'll make a bunch of outfits that use only items from Pearls, and in the case of this release, will also include a new item in every look.

The New Floor:

August 23, 2018

Image result for it's our faultRight now, half of Stardoll's blogs, social media accounts, and chat rooms are filled with people complaining about the fact that we've had multiple limited releases in a row, and not one of them has been particularly pretty.

But guess what? That's our fault, because Stardoll finally started listening to us.

See, if you've ever been in SMW's comment section, wandered around Instagram, or gotten into the deep depths of doom and drama that is Stardoll's Facebook community, you'll no doubt notice on very prominent requests - for more limited releases, more rare items, and different release times.

Which is exactly what stardoll has just done.

We've gotten RE-Le on a Wednesday - check to different timing, albeit not the 'different TIMEZONE' timing I was hoping for. Screw getting up at 3am, I want a 3pm release, thanks.

And RE- LE followed by more LE followed by Subcouture followed by more RE-LE followed by Antidote sound exactly like what it is - more rare releases, more limited items, and more often.

And no, I never wanted this. I've been saying for literal years that stardoll needs to release LESS often, giving them more time to make better quality items, and making rares feel that much more worthwhile.

But no, this is on you. All of you. For repeatedly insisting on more, more more.

Don't come crying to me when you're stuck with ugly, unsellable RE-le, where the original now for half the price you paid for the fake.

The only good thing coming out of this mess is that the idiots selling things for several thousand sd - or even real money, God forbid - might actually learn their lesson. Or, you know, they can keep getting their precious traded accounts deleted, I really don't care.

August 07, 2018

While I was looking for new items to feature for SMW's Uglies series, I re-discovered the last remaining pieces of Tingeling!

Once the crowning jewel of glamour, costumes, and a variety of quirky items, Tingeling's store has long gone from the plaza. But, there's a handful of items that can still be found in the catalog! Here were the ones I chose to style:

July 22, 2018

The recent Royalty store  included - unsurprisingly - yet more ballgowns. Which makes sense, being called 'Royalty,' and what with the approaching Miss Stardoll World season. But when it comes to Stardoll, and really, life in general, I hate a deep-seated, undying hatred of ballgowns.

Here's why:

1: They're Lazy or Impossible To Style

There's two routes you can go when styling a ballgown - absolutely boring basics, or ott ridiculous layering. The latter is boring, creative, and continually cloned, while the latter is difficult in reality and often awkward looking on our dolls.

2: There's Only So Much You Can Do With Them

Ballgowns. It's literally in the name - they're designed for the ball, an extremely fancy dress party, and perhaps a pageant.  But that's it. They're too ungainly, impractical, and expensive to be worn on basically any other occasion or to any other place.

3: Only Model Bodies Need Apply

I'm 5'1 and curvy. You know what I look good in? Well, it's certainly not a floorlength poofy gown, oh no. Or a fishtail skirt. Or an overly gaudy bustier. Gowns, by design, are recipe to make me look like an overweight hobbit. Besides, they don't even make ballgowns that hit me at the ankle - instead, I end up with unintentional front-end trains which get tripped over and shredded.

4: They're Wasteful

While ballgowns are forever popular, their style, decorations, colour and cut are constantly in a state of flux, following every trendy whim. It's rare to find a ballgown that will stay fashionable for more than a month, and even if it does outlast itself, the very nature of a ballgown means you'll probably never want to wear it out in public more than once anyway. And that, to me, is a crime against good taste, sustainability, and ethicacy.
