I did a Trend Review earlier this week on Jeans under Skirts and Dresses. Today, I'm styling it in the Plaza, and since I was already making this I took on to the internet and found a couple of tips and ideas as to how this trend could be done a bit more stylishly than just any old combination.

Tip 1: Silhouettes Matter

If you have a skirt with a lot of movement and volume to it, a great contrast - and more flattering shape - is definitely a straight, boyfriend, or skinny jean style so you get the long leg look like when you wear a pair of tights, or tall socks. If it's a more structured skirt, a straight or flared leg can really work well too.

Tip 2: Jeans are NOT neutrals

This one I figured out from quite a few...unfortunate outfits. Unless they're black, most jeans aren't a neutral, so pairing them like they are won't work. I'd say a good thing to check out is the Colour Wheel Theory to get ideas of how analogous, complimentary and neutral colours can look good when put together.

Tip 3: Focus on Waistlines

I've done this with the above outfits, but basically the smaller you make a waist look, the longer your legs are, and that's always great. With the jeans over skirts look this is a really great chance to bring back those old peplums from the deep end of your closet. Bonus, bellbottoms and flares look really good with peplums, with or without a skirt.

Tip 4: If Unsure, Go Back to Black

Dresses and skirts with black opaque tights or leggings will almost never go wrong. The same goes for black jeans - if you want to try the shape and style out of the trend it's a safe place to start since most people won't even notice that they're jeans at all.
